OTTAWA, October, 27th, 2011 – Today, Senator Céline Hervieux-Payette received the World of Difference 100 Award from The International Alliance for Women (TIAW) in Washington, DC. Each year, TIAW gives an award to 100 women from around the world who have contributed to the economic empowerment of women at local, regional and international levels.
"I am very happy and proud to be a World of Difference Award recipient. This award recognizes my many efforts, such as Bill S-203 which aims to ensure that women take their rightful place in the Canadian economy through the balanced representation of men and women on boards of administration," said Senator Hervieux-Payette from the Canadian Embassy in Washington. “It is socially just and economically sound. Above all, women couldn’t do worse than the "old boys club" who led us to the worst economic crisis in modern history," she added.
The Senator thanked the Minister for the Status of Women, the Honourable Rona Ambrose, for her letter of congratulations and hopes that she will join other Canadians in supporting bill S-203.
“We can no longer accept the status quo, Canada’s business culture must be changed to encourage diversification in senior decision-making positions," concluded the Senator yesterday during the second reading of Bill S-203.
